THE Pros and Cons of ATVs

THE Pros and Cons of ATVs

Atv, Sport, Racing, Sports Display

ATVs or four-wheelers, are definitely helpful to anyone who travels off-road for work, hunting or just enjoys the countryside. Unfortunately they are getting a bad reputation due to careless usage and a sometimes lack of courtesy and respect by a few users.

These handy little vehicles can be hauled in the bed of a truck or on a small trailer behind a truck ready to transport you off road to the trail, across the fields or in the woods in a moment’s notice. How helpful this can be for an elderly or individual with some physical impairment who may not have the endurance level of the youth. For these individuals, ATVs create a jaunt through the forests that would otherwise be a fond memory an actuality.

Unfortunately, as with most inventions there’s a downside. Where 4-wheelers give freedom of movement to people who might be limited in movement, they also give trespassers up a leg on landowners.

Imagine the shock when a property owner finds that four-wheelers or ATVs have designated a portion of his land as a principal thoroughfare. Many farms and homesteads contain creeks and streams that have weekend destinations for ages. At least they were before the 4-wheelers moved in.

Many children and adults alike ignore the fact that in some countries there’s a public waterways law. This is a law that states that any person that rides a motorized vehicle within the bed of any public waterway without written permission granted by the landowner is breaking the law and might be punished.

The disturbance of streambeds and banks is illegal as well. An enjoyable weekend snacking throughout the creek beds carries a countless toll on juvenile fish and invertebrates that may take many years to overcome.

Then there’s always the use and misuse of alcohol. There are many underage drivers who believe there are no speeding tickets or DUIs while driving on private property or in the woods. This is not to say that using any mind altering impairing substance is a good idea while managing a piece of machinery by anybody, but young people with less experience tend to make more errors in judgement as a whole. Get alcohol involved and things can really get dangerous. There are lots of known cases of underage riders as young as thirteen being apprehended hauling coolers filled with beer. If a driver is caught carrying crystal methamphetamine when riding on a streambed, this may cause a search and a felony conviction.

Young drivers often make the mistake of using their family ATV or bike to ride on public streets. They believe this is a way to start driving before reaching the legal age. Needless to say, there’s very few times in such a situation that the ATV rider comes out nicely.

If you own an ATV and have children at home, it would be in their best interests for you to review the guidelines for them as to their safe and legal usage. Don’t wait for the police to come knocking on your door to have this conversation. Where the legislation is concerned ignorance is no excuse and you as parents may find yourselves accountable for damages caused or worse yet having to deal with a personal tragedy that could have been avoided.

Finding the Right Yoga Teacher

Finding the Right Yoga Teacher

Beach, Sunset, Yoga, Meditate

I am often asked by beginners about how to evaluate a Yoga Teacher?

For the right Yoga teacher, you should be answering with a”yes” to all questions.

O Communication: Does your Yoga teacher talk to you, and other students, in a manner of mutual respect? Would you ask a question during class time?

Does your teacher show empathy for you and other students? Does your Yoga teacher take the time to lead you through a guided meditation or relaxation? Meditation and relaxation are important aspects of Yoga practice.

There are Yoga teachers who just want to have”their workout” done. Beware of Yoga teachers, who are so important, they don’t have time for you.

Some students love this atmosphere of excellence and, unfortunately, some people love abuse. If you want to learn Yoga, you want an open line of communication with your Yoga teacher.

O Assist: Does your teacher care about your form? Can your teacher give you a verbal or physical help during your Yoga class? Are props encouraged in your Yoga classes?

Some students never have major problems with alignment and some do, but if your instructor doesn’t give verbal cues, what does that tell you?

O Listen: Does your Yoga teacher take the time to listen to your feedback? Is your teacher”at the moment” with the course?

Once in a while, there’s a Yoga instructor who runs,”The-it’s-all-about-me-show.” You are not going to learn anything from this type of teaching. Beginners will be placed at risk, trying to keep up with a seasoned Yoga teacher who does not explain anything.

O Modification: Does your Yoga teacher permit modifications and props? If your teacher discourages props, you are in the wrong location.

Some students may need props for life depending upon their range of motion. Just because a teacher can do a posture without props, doesn’t mean every student can.

Overview: Stay away from abusive Yoga teachers, and if you’re attracted to abuse, there’s always professional help. Some pupils crave”the stern, but loving parent” types. They’ll push you harder, but how much pushing do you actually need?

You should feel good after a Yoga class, and you may even feel muscle soreness days after a vigorous class.

Make sure your Yoga teacher meets the above criteria before making a commitment.

Facts About Chocolate

Facts About Chocolate

Chocolate, Dark, Coffee, Confiserie

There are so many weird and wonderful fun facts about chocolate, it is tough to know which to include and which to omit because of space considerations.

First of all, the Mayans used cacao beans as money as they believed that they were more valuable than gold dust. They controlled the production of beans so that their money would not depreciate in value.

White chocolate isn’t strictly speaking chocolate. We’ve been labouring under a misapprehension for many years. Chocolate must contain cocoa solids, but white chocolate does not have any in it.

Europeans are the biggest fans of chocolate, accounting for the consumption of nearly half of the chocolate that’s produced globally.

Where was the biggest chocolate bar produced? From the UK; it had been made by Thornton’s for its centenary. It was a record breaker, weighing 5,792.50 kilograms.

Toblerone is so popular that when the amount of pubs sold each year were to be placed end to end, they would stretch to 62,000km. That is over the Earth’s circumference.

Chocolate contains theobromine which s a really powerful stimulant. If you consume a lot of it, it can prove fatal. However, you would have to eat around 22 pounds of the stuff in a single sitting, which is not really possible. Theobromine poisoning causes seizures, heart failure, dehydration, and acute kidney damage.

Chocolate chip cookies, loved by many around the world, came into being because of an accident which occurred in 1930. Ruth Wakefield ran out of cooking chocolate, but undeterred she used pieces of chocolate in her biscuit dough. The chocolate she used was Nestles, and she sold her recipe to the firm in return for a life’s supply of chocolate.

A pound of chocolate comprises 400 cocoa beans and a cacao tree will produce around 2,500 beans. The beans are the seeds of the cacao tree. These trees are delicate and cocoa farmers lose about 30 percent of the crop each year.

Ancient people fermented the pods of the cacao beans to produce drinks other than chocolate.

These were served in a golden chalice.

Each November in Germany, people celebrate Saint Martin’s Day with candies and mugs of steaming hot chocolate.

Places To Check Out While in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Night Time, Neon Lights

“Welcome to Las Vegas” Sign

It’s easy to see why the”Welcome to Las Vegas” sign is considered one of the most popular city attractions. This sign, which had been seen across Las Vegas Boulevard since 1959, comes after Mandalay Bay as well as the Little Church of the West at the southern tip of the Strip. This must-see sign, which is a excellent spot to take a selfie, was designed by Betty Willis, a late local artist.

Hoover Dam

Las Vegas became famous because of the Strip however; the town was able to sustain itself because of Hoover Dam. This engineering wonder was constructed during the Great Depression when tens of thousands of workers badly needed employment. The dam and the power plant can be viewed via several tours at various prices. The dam isn’t only visually striking but also very functional because it provides power to Arizona, California and Nevada through its arched construction.

Lee Canyon in Mount Charleston is one of the more picturesque places. From Vegas, it takes one hour to reach the ski resort, which offers skiing and snowboarding during winter and hiking during summer. Because it looks scenic, most couples choose to hold their weddings during spring and summer.

Mob Museum

Las Vegas has a long, complicated history in regards to organized crime and downtown, the Mob Museum is where people will understand the story about organized crime’s influence in Sin City as well as across the usa. Visitors can try a real Tommy gun on display or listen to actual wiretaps. The museum’s centerpiece is the bloodstained wall from the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.

Shark Reef

Tourists can incorporate this aquarium one of the places to visit with their children and is busiest during summer time. Mandalay Bay guests can find a close look at the aquarium via the program Dive with Sharks by spending a bit more.

Neon Museum

The Mob Museum depicts the story of Vegas and how it is associated with organized crime. On the other hand, the Neon Museum uses neon to tell the story of town. Beside Cashman Field off the street of Interstate-15 is a group of businesses and hotels that show Las Vegas’ evolution, from how it started as a stopover on the way to California to being a top tourist destination. There are daily tours but are only limited and sell out quickly.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden

The Bellagio Conservatory, like other Vegas’ things, easily attracts crowds. The conservatory, seen from the front desk of the resort, changes all year round due to the 100 plus gardeners that are responsible for the facility’s beautification and care.

5 Important Things To Know for Beginner Aquarists

5 Important Things To Know for Beginner Aquarists

Goofy, Tropical Fish, Fish, Water Life

Today I wanted to write about what I wish I had known when I wished to become an aquarium hobbyist. This applies to both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

  1. Take your entrance to the hobby as gradually as possible. Don’t hesitate to dive in, but do as much research as you possibly can by using books, the internet, and other amateurs with good reputations. Take extra care to simply take advice to heart from individuals others trust, that also aligns with websites or literature that others agree with. You must also decide what direction you want to take the tank, but make sure it is before you start purchasing equipment. Would you like a reef tank? A freshwater cichlid tank? There are tons of options to bring joy to your home. Once you have done your research, you can set up an aquarium!
  2. Individuals who completely take all of the water out of fish tanks and clean filters with tap water do the exact opposite of what they are supposed to. This applies to not only saltwater, but also freshwater as well. As waste is added to an aquarium, this is known as ammonia. It can be added through the use of fish food, but it’s also excreted through fish . As ammonia builds up, without good bacteria to convert this ammonia to nitrites, it quickly becomes toxic and is the number one killer of fish. Once the aquarium’s beneficial bacteria forms obviously, it then turns the nitrites to nitrates. While nitrites are less toxic, they remove oxygen from the water. This is why they also need to be converted naturally to nitrates. Nitrates are the least harmful and may only be bad for fish in very large quantities. By simply taking out 25% of the aquarium water and replacing it with clean water that has been dechlorinated, you don’t shock the fish or beneficial bacteria. This bacteria can take 4-6 weeks to form if it is not seeded from another tank and this’nitrifying cycle’ can be very hard on your fish. Delicate fish won’t survive. The bacteria lives all over your aquarium. This may be from the gravel, filter, sand, and water column.
  3. Test your water. Test strips are cheap and easy to use, to look for elevated amounts in ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate. The remedy or these scenarios is simply feeding less, eliminating some fish if the tank is over a couple months old and levels are still high, or doing partial water changes. I suggest to all my customers that they change 25-35percent of their water every 2 weeks. This will dilute nitrates down in the water by eliminating them. It’s not a necessity, but it’s a significant preventative in keeping fish healthy. If bad water doesn’t outright kill a fish, it weakens their immune systems and this is where sickness can kill the fish.
  4. Control your feedings. Most people I have come in contact with in the aquarium care industry follow the directions on fish food containers and majorly overfeed their fish resulting in deadly water and tank crashes. Feed a small pinch of food daily except for a day of the week with no food. Allow the fish eat all this food in 30 minutes with no going into the filter, and if the fish seems lean slowly creep up the food amounts. This way the beneficial bacteria can multiply to compensate.
  5. Research everything before you buy it. I can’t count the number of tank crashes and big humpbacked fish because the buyer didn’t do any research. Find out if your tank can create an ethical and healthy environment for your fish or coral, such as having enough room for them to grow to their specified healthy size. You and your livestock will be a lot happier and less stressed with ample space and filtration.
Come to the Carnival

Come to the Carnival

Amusement Park, Night, Lights, Rides

During England, in most of the seaside towns and in many inland cities too, the hot summer months of June, July and August would be the signal for carnival time. England might not be able to match all of the riotous splendor of Rio or Jamaica, but what English country and seaside carnivals lack in all that jazz and colour they more than make up for in warmth and excitement.

A carnival is a public festival or occasion characterized by street processions, lots of dressing up in fancy and colourful costumes and made merry with plenty of dancing and singing. The origins of these jolly celebrations return in the pagan mists of history and appear to be first recorded in ancient Greece when the parties were all in honor of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. Wildlife Removal Port St Lucie

Watch the Disney cartoon in Fantasia where a portly merry-maker and his donkey practically drown in the flowing grape juice, all to the music of Beethoven’s joyous Pastoral Symphony and you start to get the picture.

The Romans enjoyed the idea so much that when they picked up the baton of progressing world culture they turned the entire thing into their own Bacchanalia. It was still a heathen party, dedicated today to Bacchus their god of drink and vegetation. And it remained the ideal excuse to get a rip-roaring booze up.

At the exact same time the ruling elite were shrewd enough to realize that the great number of slaves and the lower masses needed an occasional means to let off steam and go crazy without actually blowing into a full scale rebellion. So a couple of refinements were added, such as allowing people to dress up, wear masks to escape recognition and even play at role reversal. For the duration of the festival that the general populace could ape their betters and eliminate it. Anything and everything was tolerated.

The Bacchanalia became the Saturnalia, which literally means the excess of the senses. Nothing was sacred and nothing was prohibited, and at the end of it we could only assume that the revellers were exhausted and the hangovers so enormous that they all went meekly back to being slaves .

Eventually the old gods were pushed into the periphery of society as Christianity took hold and became the established religion of the Holy Roman Empire. The Saturnalia could no longer be tolerated simply as a drunken orgy and so it had to be altered and changed again. The lower orders still needed an annual relaxing of the rules to celebrate and so the more acceptable aspects like the masked play acting, the feasting and parades and the street party atmosphere were kept. They were incorporated instead to the new Christian festival of Lent.

In the Christian Church Lent is the penitential preparation of the weeks leading up to Easter, and also an imitation of Christ drifting and fasting in the wilderness. It must have taken quite a feat of imagination to turn a quick into a festival, but naturally there is both a start and an end to a period of fasting, and can be the cause for casting aside all of the restraints.

The Tuesday before the fasting started was known as Fat Tuesday, it was the final chance to stuff yourself and over-indulge in food and drink before the long fast began. The European settlers who colonized the Americas took the word with them. Hence those fantastic carnivals in Rio, Jamaica and Trinidad all now infused with the warmth and colours as well as the rhythmic drum beats of tropical Africa.

It’s all come full circle with the Notting Hill Carnival in London, an exotic taste of the Caribbean which could attract a million people.

Until the 19th century carnival celebrations in England were held on Shrove Tuesday, the day before the interval when Lent traditionally began. However, as the country has become more secular the true basis of carnival has become separated from its Christian links. It seems that February is too cold and the weather too inclement. The dates have moved ahead to those warmer months of the year once we can really enjoy them.

Last year, during the months of July and August at the East Anglia corner of England there were carnivals in Newmarket, Wells, Heacham, Sheringham, Felixstowe, Lavenham, Beccles, Aldeburgh and Cromer. Plus there were a number of fairs, festivals and designated family fun days which were carnivals in all but the title. In the lakes and broads of England the carnival has become a waterborne regatta.

That title seemed to include all of it, plus it had been advertised as having a Medieval Theme and you can’t imagine a more appropriate background for the middle ages than this enchanting old wool town.

It’s a town of overhanging white and black timbers and pastel pretty colour washes where more than 300 of these pantomime background structures are listed buildings. The more elaborate were retailer’s houses or guildhalls and Lavenham was one of the most prosperous towns in East Anglia.

The carnival parade started in the mediaeval market square in front of the most magnificent Tudor building of all of them, the ancient black and white Holy Trinity Guildhall. A group of ladies in Tudor costumes entertained the crowds with a screen of mediaeval dancing, before lining up behind the Glen Morrison Pipe and Drum band for the procession to the carnival showground.

I had picked my camera station where they turned from the top of Church Street to Bridge End Road on the last lap up to the showground. With kilts swirling and the pipes skirling the Highlanders made a splendid picture as they turned facing the towering flint tower of the magnificent Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul.

The procession turned to the crowded showground and then paraded around the middle ring. Eventually there was judging and the presenting of the prizes for the best conceived costumes. The Pipe and Drum Band strutted their stuff again, marching to the glorious tunes of Scotland the Brave and other Highland classics.

The programme of events got back to its mediaeval theme with a display of Falconry, the gorgeous predatory birds wheeling and flashing over the up turned faces of the watching crowds. Falcons are used for hunting since the middle ages and have been trained to always return to their handler’s well protected wrist.

There was a costumed side saddle display, with elegant ladies and gentlemen in period dress putting their gloss dressed horses through their prancing paces, an equestrian event being an almost mandatory presentation at any truly English nation collecting. There was also a parade of heritage cattle and sheep, the latter particularly appropriate since the so-called Golden Fleece had always been the prime source of wealth during Lavenham’s heritage golden era.

To bring the mood closer to the modern day there was also a fantastic collection of classic automobiles on parade from the Lavenham Press Rare Breeds Motor Show. Around 450 of those glorious vintage vehicles were constructed, all polished and restored to perfection, their chrome glass and paintwork gleaming in sunlight. Each one made a slow turn around the parade ground and the series seemed to roll on for ever.

There was a fun fair for the children, trade stalls to the mums, side shows and entertainment along with a tea tent and bar. The bar was well populated but this wasn’t any Dionysian orgy. Ale seemed more preferable to wine and its consumption was cheerful and commanded. The mood was relaxed and happy with everyone enjoying the hot August sunshine. It was the ideal bank holiday weekend.

The spirit of carnival has lost some of its wild side in its refinement down the centuries, but what remains is well worth pursuing. It’s a fantastic family day out with something for everybody. This year they’ll do it again, at Lavenham and all those other cities and villages where carnival has become an annual event.

Watch the local media for the times and the dates. There’s guaranteed to be a carnival someplace near where you go in England. Go along and support it, have fun, soak up the atmosphere and the summer sunshine.

In the words of the song,”Come to the Carnival.”
